ToS was founded on my medical background incorporating a strong application in psychology which started when I owned two Leonberger cross dogs who developed territorial dog aggression. I began studying and researching effective methods to break dog aggression. Aggressive dog training is a multi-faceted approach.
My research lead me to a dog training program which emphasized behavioral training methods from behaviourists like Skinner, and Watson. Studying Pavlov’s dog helped me to gain insight into the canines learning and behaviour, but more so in how to correct it effectively.
From here I spent a few months volunteering for a shelter and developing my current programs with success. I was assigned three dogs all of which had varying degrees of aggression and all three rehoused.
Dog aggression specifically is tamed through behaviour modification in the human as I noted that when an aggressive dog has a male owner, he too often has some aggressive traits, and when a female has an aggressive dog, she often displays victim traits and bought the dog for protection.
Another key point is that most dog owners will stand there while a dog is getting aggressive which tells me that owners need more education. My programs seek to educate people on what to do in these situations, and gives appropriate owner action to correct these behaviours.
When I first arrive at your home I assess breed issues which appear with a breed like the Pit Bull or a Bassett hound. These breeds have distinctive traits which tell me how difficult or easy a breed will be to train, and issues that are likely to surface.
Next I assess relationships between the dog and human. Then I assess their walking and how your dog responds to their environment.
The next layer to training is teaching the owners how their behaviour affects their dog and vice versa. I witnessed a client with two French bull dogs fighting like crazy with each other and the married couple fought the same with each other, mimicking and mirroring.
The owners must learn how their body language, and either actions or inactions can affect their dog.
The last layer is implementation, I correct difficult behaviours, and create innate learning where new behaviour becomes automatic through obedience and agility philosophies
I am training with a 5 year old Pitbull who has never had any training and has been allowed to do whatever she wants. The owner acknowledges the problem and has contacted me to help her as now she is desperate because her dog is very aggressive to other dogs. She recently was at a friends and she got very aggressive with their small dog and they asked her to leave. Ripley is now enrolled in a 6-12 week aggressive dog training program.
Harley is a Pitbull Shepard Mix that I have been training. When we started he was human aggressive due to severe abuse he was exposed to as a puppy.
Lunging and trying to attack people on the street. He was deemed dangerous by the city and is forced to be muzzled in public.
On my first visit he lunged at me. After the four week mark he was taking food out of my hand unrestrained. He was out through agility exercises and was responding to owner commands.

” I hired Tails of Success when my new puppy of 11 weeks would not stop barking when I was at work. Erin assessed the situation and tested how long it took for the barking to start when we would leave my apt and closed the door. My puppy would start barking in as little as 10 sec after we left. I got many notes on my door from neighbours, and my landlord said ‘one more strike and you’re out!’ Erin told me that research suggests that when a puppy has anxiety that crating can make the anxiety worse. One day I went downstairs to my apt and left my puppy out of the crate and he never barked once. Tails of Success brings experience, research and expertise.”
“We brought home this 4 month old puppy from a rescue and the first few days he was fine but then started to develop some untoward behaviors.
He was aggressively barking non stop and when visitors would come he would bark aggressively for the whole time they were there. He was also jumping and nipping my elderly mother by surprise from behind.
He was fearful of people and he had many other very concerning issues. The first time Erin came to see him he lunged at her twice and barked non stopped.
He was so scared he hid under and chair and Erin took the entire hour to draw him out from under the chair and build trust. After two weeks of training coming three days a week. Griffen stopped lunging at my mother from behind and biting her.
His barking decreased from an hour of barking to 5min when people came but there was no aggression, just barking.
He is a completely different dog!”
“It was very helpful for us to learn techniques, but also needed for the dog to really understand what is expected. In the six weeks, not only we did we all gain confidence, but our puppy is walking and healing much better, he learned drop it, leave it, and stopped barking at people out back. ToS gave him agility training, distraction training, and we spent a day at the dog park.”
